Michelle Yeoh is responding to a mother who slid into her DMs asking to borrow one of her red carpet dresses for her daughter’s wedding.
“What a fabulous and fearless mom!! Great taste, Tracy! I’m so flattered you loved the stunning dress, but Amity’s right! The dress is the brilliant handiwork of Armani Privé (and sadly not in my closet!)” she wrote on her Instagram Stories on Thursday morning.
She then went on to wish “the loving couple the most beautiful, magical wedding! and Tracy, the perfect mother of the bride!”
Tracy Kauffman-Wood was on the hunt for the perfect dress to wear to her daughter’s wedding. While watching the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, she found it on the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actor.
On March 18, her daughter Amity posted a video to TikTok explaining that her mom reached out to the Oscar-winning actress to see if she could borrow her Armani Privé gown to wear on the big day.
“She can’t be serious ?? I love her but sometimes I wonder…” Amity posted in the caption.
The video quickly went viral, garnering 3.2 million views.
“Celebrities seem so close by these days with social media. It’s not like I had to write and mail a fan letter to her agent. That’s old school. If I could reach her easily, why not?”Kauffman-Wood told People Magazine. “Would she be charmed by my request? The worst she could do is ignore me, if she ever even saw my message. I did it on a lark with the fantasy in my head that she might actually answer. Why? I don’t know. But what a sensation that would be!”
Amity also attempted to explain to her mom that the dress probably wasn’t Yeoh’s.
“I know it isn’t Michelle’s dress, but I’m still trying to explain this to my mom,” she told the magazine.
She also added that her mom isn’t into shopping and dresses more for “comfort over style.”
“So her asking for an Armani Privé spring-summer 2025 gown was crazy to me,” she continued.
When Amity caught wind of Yeoh’s response, she immediately posted the update to TikTok.
“This is actually crazy to me. Like, I know that the People article had a chance of reaching her, but I didn’t think she would do all this. This is so cool,” the 28-year-old said in her video.
Even though Yeoh doesn’t have the dress, she is invited to the nuptials.
“I don’t think she’s going to be free, but if she is, that would be so crazy. What if she showed up in the dress?” she laughed. “Also, very importantly, Michelle Yeoh said that I was right. I’m getting that framed. I’m getting this as a poster on my wall. I’m never getting over this.”
She also said her wedding day will now be perfect because the “Wicked” actress sent her well-wishes for a “perfect” day.
Amity then told Armani that she and her mom would love to chat with the designer for a wedding day look.
“That is a joke, but also not a joke at the same time,” she laughed.
