WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department reinstated two officers who were pardoned by President Donald Trump after they were involved in covering up a man’s death.
MPD officers Terrance Sutton and Lt. Andrew Zabavksy were convicted for their involvement in covering up 20-year-old Karon Hylton-Brown’s death along with the details of the fatal incident.
Sutton and Zabavksy had engaged in an unauthorized chase back in 2020, which ended in a crash that killed Hylton-Brown.
Sutton was convicted and sentenced to 66 months in prison for Hylton-Brown’s death, and Zabavksy was sentenced to 48 months for conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
In January of this year, Trump approved pardons for the two officers, granting them clemency.
On Monday, March 3, MPD confirmed to DC News Now that Sutton and Zabavksy had been reinstated.
MPD said it would comment on personal matters.
