The driver of a semi-truck was killed in a violent collision with a Metrolink train Wednesday in Ventura County, officials confirmed to KTLA.

Metrolink officials said the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. at a private crossing near the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Montair Drive in Moorpark.

The Metrolink Ventura County Line, train 118, was traveling southbound with 17 passengers and two crew members aboard at the time of the deadly crash.

“The driver of the semi-truck has tragically died from injuries sustained in the crash,” the Ventura County Fire Department, one of the responding agencies, said in a post to X.

All five train cars and the engine remained upright on the tracks throughout the collision, which dragged the big rig’s front end an unknown distance from the point of impact at the uncontrolled railroad crossing.

Footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA shows only the completely detached front end of the vehicle wedged beneath the train. One tire remained attached to the mangled remnants of the semi-truck.

Fire officials said one person aboard the Metrolink train suffered minor injuries.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol said on X that motorists on State Route 118 should expect delays as emergency vehicles and approximately 45 VCFD personnel remained on scene for an unknown amount of time.

“Due to the track closure, all remaining westbound Metrolink trains this evening will end their routes at the Moorpark station,” Metrolink officials told KTLA. “This will impact trains 127 and 129, in particular.

The investigation into the crash is being conducted by the Moorpark Police Department and the Ventura County Medical Examiner.
