(NewsNation) — Two cases of measles have been reported at an immigration detention facility in Texas, the Department of Homeland Security announced.
The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed active measles infections among two detainees on Jan. 31, leading to a quarantine of the facility.
“Medical staff is continuing to monitor the detainees’ conditions and will take appropriate and active steps to prevent further infection. All detainees are being provided with proper medical care,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
The South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas, is where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, were held after they were detained in Minneapolis. The pair arrived home Sunday.
More than 580 measles cases have been reported in the U.S. so far this year, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
