ATTEMPTS to view X-rated content over the Government’s wifi system were made every 42 minutes last year.
Figures show 12,557 bids to access adult material at courts, embassies and Whitehall offices.
That is the equivalent of 34 searches a day, or 242 a week, and is a 380 per cent rise from the year before when 2,601 efforts were halted by a firewall.
A Freedom of Information request by The Sun on Sunday found at least 982 attempts were made to view pornography.
Some 56 more searches through the Government Digital Service (GDS) were deemed to be for “nudity or risque content” while the remaining 11,519 were classed as “other adult material”.
Officials did not say what they classified as adult content, although it is thought to include sites such as OnlyFans.
Cyber security expert Will Guyatt told The Sun on Sunday: “You have to wonder why someone would be looking at that sort of material from a government device.
“It’s possible the reason so many have been flagged is because the systems are wary of cybersecurity threats from adult sites.
“But you don’t find this stuff by accident.”
Using dating apps is also banned on GovWifi as it is viewed as unprofessional.
In 2018, porn was accessed 24,000 times by parliamentary devices used by MPs and staff.
The Cabinet Office, which runs the GDS, was asked to comment.
