WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — As Pope Francis remains hospitalized, recovering from double pneumonia, one church in D.C. invites the community to gather in prayer Sunday.
Doctors said Saturday that Francis was in stable condition. Francis was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 14 after a bout with bronchitis developed into complex pneumonia in both lungs, according to a report from the Associated Press.
As the pontiff recovers in Rome, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (BNSIC) in Northeast D.C. scheduled a special Mass to pray for him Sunday. The BNSIC, the largest Catholic church in North America and one of the 10 largest worldwide, was the site of a papal visit in 2015.
For Sunday’s Mass, which will be held at noon, Christophe Cardinal Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, will be the celebrant and homilist. Immediately after, Monsignor Walter Rossi, Rector of the Basilica, will lead the prayer.
