Married At First Sight’s Selina Chhaur has been on a rollercoaster ride since first appearing on the popular Channel Nine reality show in 2022.
The 36-year-old star instantly became a fan favourite thanks to her girl next door looks and bright and bubbly personality.
But things soon changed when she made made a bold move from the comfort of her hometown of Adelaide to Sydney to pursue opportunities post-MAFS.
And while her career blossomed, her social life took a hit.
Selina says people from Sydney are just not as friendly as other Aussies, and she found it hard to make friends in the Harbour City.
‘I used to have great friends and a bad love life. Now I have an amazing relationship, but hardly any close friends,’ she explained.
Selina admitted the friendships she formed during the show were crucial, given the lack of emotional support after filming.
‘You need at least one person you can trust,’ she said.

‘It was a massive change, going from a full-time job and stable friends to becoming an influencer and podcaster in a new city.
‘It’s hard to know who’s genuine and who’s in it for their own agenda.’
But the move also sparked personal growth for Selina.
‘I honestly think everyone should try moving to a new place at least once,’ she added.
‘You can always go back home, but sometimes you find a new home, like I did.’

Reflecting on her time on MAFS, Selina admitted that watching herself on TV made her rethink her self-image.
Known for her striking bleach-blonde hair and bold fashion choices, Selina confessed she once relied on trends like coloured contacts to feel confident.
‘I used to think I had to be blonde and blue-eyed to feel confident. But now, I’m embracing my natural look. It’s been empowering,’ she said.
‘Watching myself back on TV was confronting—I didn’t even recognise myself at times.’
Transitioning into the influencer world hasn’t been a breeze either.
‘You need thick skin in this industry. Everyone’s hustling, and not everyone has your back,’ she explained. ‘You have to be confident and push yourself.’

Selina said she was forced to overcome her social anxiety by attending events and speak to new people.
‘For the first year, I made it my goal to attend every event and talk to someone new. It really helped me grow,’ she explained.
Despite the challenges, Selina believes her authenticity is what has kept her in the spotlight.
‘I never went on MAFS to be famous; I genuinely wanted to find love. I think that’s why I’ve lasted so long in the media world—people can see when you’re real,’ she insisted.
Her podcast Back to Reality was also a hit, but Selina recently decided to take a break from it, admitting that the constant drama became overwhelming.
‘It was starting to drain me. I love supporting others, but the drama surrounding the show was becoming too much,’ she said.

While she doesn’t need to go on another dating show after meeting boyfriend Mitchell Diamond, Selina hinted she hasn’t ruled out a return to reality TV, especially something travel-related like The Amazing Race.
‘My partner and I love travelling, so that would be a fun adventure,’ she teased.
She also hinted at possibly appearing on The Block as her partner has a background in trade work.
