The death of a man found in a South Side alley with severe burns all over his body was ruled a homicide Saturday, though authorities released few details on how it occurred.

Officers found the still-unidentified man of unknown age in an alley behind the 6700 block of South Prairie Avenue around 5 p.m. on Oct. 12, according to Chicago police.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition but died there Friday morning.

An autopsy performed Saturday showed that the man died by a combination of “craniocerebral, thermal and inhalation injuries,” as well as an assault and a motor vehicle fire and was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A police spokesperson could not provide additional details on the case including the burns or whether a burned vehicle was recovered.

No suspects are in custody, and police said they’re investigating.
