The man who sexually assaulted a UCLA exchange student this summer in her on-campus residence has been sentenced to prison, the university’s police department confirmed on Friday.
Jeffery Stott Brewer Jr., 42, pleaded no contest to felony sexual assault and residential burglary charges in court, authorities say. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after the plea.
Police say that Brewer entered the university’s Saxon Suites in the early morning of July 5. Prosecutors said he loitered near the building around 1:30 a.m. until he was let in by a student.
He eventually left at the request of two residents, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, but later broke back into the building at about 2:40 a.m.
Brewer then entered the room of the exchange student and sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping.
He was arrested later that day.
After an initial plea of not guilty, Brewer changed it to no contest, which skips the trial and sends the case straight to sentencing. He’ll now spend the next 10 years in prison.
