Officers responded to a Target store in Murrieta last week just in time to capture a pair of shoplifting suspects, including one who was wearing a “can’t stop the crooks” T-shirt.

Police responded after the suspects were spotted on surveillance video trying to sneak out with unpaid merchandise, the Murrieta Police Department posted on Facebook Monday morning.

Arriving officers found the first suspect as he was leaving the store. “During a very enlightening chat, he proudly declared he was ‘coming out of retirement’ as a career shoplifter,” police said.

The second suspect was taken into custody after being found “still wandering the aisles” inside the store.

A shoplifting suspect is seen in an image taken from video provided by the Murrieta Police Department.

“To top it all off, one of them was wearing a shirt that read, ‘can’t stop the crooks.’ #SpoilerAlert: yes, we can,” police said in the post.

Both unidentified suspects were arrested and booked on suspicion of multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit shoplifting.

“If you’re planning a heist, you might want to skip Murrieta. Or better yet… don’t plan one at all.” police said.
