A 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man during an argument Sunday evening in Victorville, according to the Victorville Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 8:28 p.m. on June 29 in the 11700 block of Sierra Road. Officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and determined that the suspect, identified as James Martin, had been involved in a verbal altercation with a 33-year-old man in the victim’s front yard. During the dispute, Martin allegedly fired multiple gunshots, striking the victim in the back.

The victim was taken to a hospital before officers arrived on scene. His condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Upon arrival, officers surrounded Martin’s nearby residence and issued multiple commands for occupants to exit. When no suspect emerged, a search warrant was obtained. Officers entered the home and located Martin’s roommate, identified as Elizabeth Grow, 50, but Martin was not inside.

Several hours later, Martin voluntarily arrived at the Victorville Police Department and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on suspicion of attempted murder. Grow was also arrested and booked at the same facility for violation of parole.

Police have not released additional details about the dispute or whether the suspect and victim knew one another. The investigation remains ongoing.
