A SON is accused of stuffing his dead mum’s body into the family freezer in a warped plot to secure her pension.
Sandro Mallus, 58, denies that he murdered his beloved mother, but says he will “never find peace” for what he did with her corpse.
The Sardinian claims mum Rosanna Pilloni, 78, died of natural causes before he discovered her lifeless body, L’union Sarda reports.
Sandro hatched a chilling plan to keep collecting her pension as he says he was so poor that he wasn’t able to afford a funeral.
He said: “I would never have hurt her: when I discovered her lifeless body I was desperate, I didn’t have the money for the funeral and so I locked her in there.
“I can’t find peace for what I did… I made a mistake and I will pay for what I did, but I’m not a murderer.”
Sarroch locals claim that Sandro tried to hide his mother’s death and fool their quiet town into believing she was still alive.
He told residents wild tales about his mum’s whereabouts and even kept shopping for two people, The Telegraph reports.
But concerned neighbours eventually turned to police when they hadn’t seen Rosanna for months,
Cops found Rosanna’s body in the freezer with Sandro having confessed to stashing her in there.
They believe she could have died as far back ago as January 2023.
Rosanna’s body will now have to thaw for four days before police are able to conduct an autopsy in Cagliari.
The prosecutor is now investigating Sandro for fraud and concealment of a corpse, but charges are yet to have been laid.
They haven’t ruled out the possibility that Sandro killed his mum to illegally obtain her pension.
Sarroch mayor Angelo Dessi said: “We live in a tranquil community and it’s a healthy place to live.
“You never think anything like this would happen here.
“We have to reflect on how it could have happened in a community where everyone knows each other. We can’t understand it.”
Police are questioning Rosanna’s and the local pharmacy to look into the state of her health before her death.
