A man is in critical condition after being shot by a deputy in a Laguna Hills parking lot on Saturday morning, officials confirmed to KTLA.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that around 8:03 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance call for a man walking around with two knives in a commercial parking lot.
Once deputies arrived in the area of Ridge Route Drive and Moulton Parkway, they found a man armed with at least one knife.
Details are limited, but officials said the armed suspect “moved towards” one of the deputies, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.
The department did not reveal any more information about the encounter, but said officials provided medical aid to the man at the scene before taking him to a local area hospital.
As of Saturday evening, the man, who was not immediately identified, was in critical condition.
“There were no other suspects involved in the initial call for service or the deputy-involved shooting,” the department added. “No deputies were injured during the incident.”
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the deputy-involved shooting.
