The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a late-night shooting that allegedly involved two suspects in multiple vehicles.
According to an LAPD spokesperson, officers responded to the 7800 block of Denivelle Road in Sunland around 11:30 p.m. Sunday on a shots fired call. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity was not immediately released.
“Preliminary information indicates two suspect vehicles approached the victim [while he was] on foot,” LAPD confirmed to KTLA. “Suspect 1, the driver of a white truck, got out and fired at the victim; Suspect 2, the passenger in a black vehicle, also got out and fired at the victim.”
Video from the scene, taken by KTLA, shows a white canopy set up on the street behind police tape as officers combed the area for evidence with flashlights.
The suspects were said to have fled the scene in the vehicles in an unknown direction. However, police confirmed one of them was taken into custody on Grove Street near Mount Gleason Avenue, which is about 1,000 feet from the scene of the shooting.
“This suspect was in a red Mercedes, [meaning] they possibly changed vehicles,” the LAPD spokesperson added. “It is unclear at this time the circumstances surrounding the red Mercedes.”
Officers are still searching for additional suspects and LAPD homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
No further details were released.
