A Venezuelan man who was found in a ditch along Interstate 65 near Crown Point last week suffered a fatal gunshot wound, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Nelson Daniel Ramos-Rivas, 23, was found along the U.S. 231 southbound ramp to I-65 around 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 28 by a cleanup crew, an Indiana State Police release said.
The coroner’s release said it’s unknown where the homicide occurred. Two individuals who had been recently taken into custody by the FBI and the King County Sheriff’s Office in Seattle, Washington, were quickly identified as the suspects in this homicide, police said. Charges are pending in Indiana.
The coroner’s office initially had trouble locating Ramos-Rivas’ next of kin, but as of Thursday, they were able to contact his family to notify them of his death.
