Chicago police and U.S. Postal Service inspectors arrested a Chicago man accused of carrying out an August mail theft from a West Loop condominium, the Postal Service announced.

A plainclothes postal inspector spent three days monitoring Matthew Hutcheson, 33, before arresting him Christmas Day in the Loop, according to a police report contained in court records.

Hutcheson is charged with burglary and had a master key, a fake ID and debit cards not in his name on him when arrested, according to the report.

He faces additional charges of resisting a police officer, possession of a fake ID and possession of burglary tools, per the postal service news release.

Hutcheson was first arrested in June while driving an allegedly stolen U-Haul truck, according to a police report. Officers found burglary tools including pliers and five master keys to post boxes, several fake pieces of identification and several fake credit and debit cards on him during the June arrest, according to the report.

Prosecutors charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and possession of fake identification. According to the postal service’s news release, Hutcheson didn’t show up for court while on pretrial release.

Judge Susana Ortiz last week ordered Hutcheson released on electronic monitoring while he awaits trial, records show. He is next set to appear in court Tuesday.
