WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man was arrested on Wednesday in connection to a series of sexual abuse cases in Washington, D.C.
During a press conference on Nov. 21, the police department announced that detectives arrested 33-year-old Uwana Ubom, of Northwest D.C. Investigators believed that Ubom was allegedly connected to 12 sexual abuse investigations.
Police said their extensive investigation led MPD’s Sexual Assault Unit to connect Ubom to the following cases:
- On June 3, 2021, around 2:30 a.m., in the 4500 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest, the suspect forced his way into the victim’s apartment and forced sexual contact with the victim.
- On June 10, 2021, around 4:15 a.m., in the 400 block of Irving Street in Northwest, a man approached the victim, pushed her to the ground and had forced sexual contact with the victim before leaving the area.
- On April 2, around 1:30 a.m., in the 1600 block of 14th Street, Northwest, the man approached the victim, shoved her to the ground, and tried to kiss her before leaving.
- On May 21, around 2:20 a.m., in the 1600 block of Fuller Street, Northwest, the man approached the victim, shoved her to the ground, and forced sexual contact before leaving.
- On May 27, around 4:30 a.m., in the 1300 block of Montello Avenue, Northeast, the suspect approached the victim, insinuated he had a gun and forced the victim to abide before forcing sexual assault and leaving the area soon after.
- On June 24, at about 6:30 a.m., in the 1400 block of Spring Road, Northwest, a man approached the victim and pointed a gun at her before forcing sexual contact on the victim and leaving.
- On July 29, around 2:10 a.m., at the intersection of 14th and Belmont Street, Northwest, a man drove up to the victim and offered her a ride. Once they arrived at the destination, the man pulled out a gun and forced sexual contact with the victim before letting the victim leave the car.
- On August 11, around 2 a.m., in the 1600 block of Columbia Road, Northwest, a man approached the victim in the elevator and made forced sexual contact with the victim before leaving.
- On Oct. 13, around 4:15 a.m., in the 1600 block of Lanier Place, Northwest, a man approached the victim in her apartment lobby, pulled out a gun and forced sexual contact on the victim before leaving the scene.
- On Oct. 28, in the early morning between 3:40 a.m. and 3:55 a.m., in the 1700 block of 17th Street, Northwest, a man approached the victim, put a gun against the victim and forced her into an alley. The victim pleaded with the suspect which caused the suspect to leave the area.
- On Nov. 1, around 5 a.m., in the 1400 block of Ogden Street, Northwest, a man approached the victim, pulled out a gun and forced sexual contact with the victim. The victim fought and screamed which caused the man to leave the area.
- On Nov. 3, between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., in the 4500 block of 15th Street, Northwest, a man approached the victim, pulled out a gun and performed a sexual act on the victim before leaving the area.
Ubom was charged with multiple counts of Third Degree Sex Abuse, Third Degree Sex Abuse while Armed, as well as Simple Assault, Assault with Intent to Commit First Degree Sex Abuse while Armed, Misdemeanor Sexual Abuse, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and First Degree Sexual Abuse while Armed.
