A man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman in what Culver City police called an “unprovoked attack” on Tuesday.

The attack was reported at around 6:44 p.m. near the 4100 block of Madison Avenue. The Culver City Police Department responded to a report of a woman screaming and bleeding from the back of her head.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman on the ground with visible injuries to her head.

She was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Before she was transported, she gave officers a description of the suspect. Moments later, officers found the man near the 4100 block of La Salle Avenue.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury.

Police said the man, who they did not identify publicly, is believed to have attacked the woman from behind by pulling her to the ground by her hair and punching her repeatedly.

Authorities called the attack an “unprovoked assault.”

No additional details were immediately made available.
