A man was arrested at the Glendale Galleria on Sunday following an alleged hammer attack outside the Bloomingdale’s department store, according to video footage.
The incident was captured by Jose Hernandez, an off-duty photographer for KTLA, who happened to be at the mall at the time. Hernandez recorded the moment Glendale Police officers ordered the man to the ground and took him into custody near the department store entrance.
Hernandez told KTLA that the suspect appeared to be attacking people at random with a hammer, though that detail has not been independently confirmed by law enforcement. In the video, mall security personnel are seen standing nearby as officers arrest the man. What appears to be a bloodied hammer is visible on the ground.
The Glendale Police Department has not issued a public statement and did not immediately respond to KTLA’s request for comment.
As of Sunday evening, no charges had been publicly announced, and the identity of the suspect had not been released.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available from law enforcement.
