A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a string of robberies in Orange County, officials announced Wednesday.
In a news release, authorities with the Garden Grove Police Department said investigators recognized patterns in at least five robberies that occurred in early January.
“Detectives noticed several cases that had similar circumstances and began cross-referencing each of the five cases to see if it could be the same suspect,” police said, and added that after reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, detectives believed all the cases likely involved the same suspect.
During the investigation, detectives also reached out to other law enforcement agencies in Orange County to see if any of their robbery cases showed similar circumstances and discovered three additional robberies for a total of eight.
Based on the information gathered, investigators began surveilling the suspect, identified as Garden Grove resident David Zamarripa, and took him into custody as he attempted to leave a hotel in the city.
“A subsequent investigation led detectives to find evidence from the robberies and the possible weapon used,” police said.
Authorities did not provide any information on what similarities existed between the incidents, nor were any victims identified.
Zamarripa was booked at the Orange County Jail.
Anyone with information about this investigation or who may be aware of any additional victims is urged to contact Detective G. Jordan at the Garden Grove Police Department at 714-741-5838 or the GGPD’s Detective Bureau at 714-741-5800.
