A 30-year-old man was shot to death in back of a Brooklyn rowhouse, police said Thursday.
Chad Lewars was shot multiple times in the torso during a confrontation behind a brick two-story home on E. 84th St. near Foster Ave. in Canarsie about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.
Medics rushed Lewars to Brookdale University Hospital but he could not be saved.
There were no immediate arrests.
Lewars was born in Jamaica and immigrated as a child to New York where he works in international shipping at his father’s business, the victim’s uncle, Roderick Lewars, told the Daily News.
The victim’s parents were in Jamaica celebrating their home country’s 62nd Independence Day when their son was killed, according to Lewars’ uncle, who said his brother informed him of his nephew’s murder in a tragic call late Wednesday night.
“When he called me last night at 3:20 a.m. the first words was ‘Chad is dead, he’s been shot,’” Roderick Lewars recounted. “We were on the phone for 10 minutes and I could not get another word out of him. He was just crying.”
Lewars’ parents were expected to return to the city Friday in search of answers regarding their son’s senseless killing.
“We don’t know if it’s a robbery, we don’t know if somebody set him up because he’s in the business,” said Roderick Lewars. “That’s why he’s coming back tomorrow, and trying to get back as soon as possible.”
The victim was known to wear fine clothes and drive luxury cars, according to his uncle, who fears the victim’s taste for the finer things might have attracted unwanted attention.
“He’s kind of a flashy guy,” said Roderick Lewars. “He dresses well, he drives expensive cars. Somebody might see him and think he has money.”
Roderick Lewars described his nephew as hardworking. He leaves behind one child.
“I don’t know why this happened,” the grieving uncle said. “It should have never happened.”
