Administration officials with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District announced the closure of four campuses Monday due to dangerous road conditions and challenges with accessing the schools.
“We have been in communication with the City of Malibu, the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Captain, Supervisor Lindsay Horvath’s office and the Los Angeles County Public Works Department throughout the day,” officials said in an email parents, guardians and staff. “Based on their updates and warning regarding roads, and mudflow issues and continued rain, the decision was made to close schools tomorrow with the safety of students and staff as our top priority.”
The four campuses closed include:
- Webster Elementary
- Malibu Elementary
- Malibu Middle School
- Malibu High School
The email further noted that parents and staff would hear from their school’s principal regarding “the continuity of learning to be engage our students while school is closed.”
Officials said they are continuing to monitor the situation and will communicate with those in the district tomorrow regarding plans for Tuesday.
All Santa Monica school campuses will be open Monday.
