A MAJOR motorway has been closed down in both directions with at least a mile of congestion after several drivers allegedly stopped to rescue a dog.
Unconfirmed eyewitness reports from the busy carriageway claim to have seen drivers from a truck, van and car all stopping to help the animal.
The M20 eastbound between Junction eight and Junction nine was closed with diversion routes in operation.
National Highways said it was because of a “@kent_police led incident”.
They added: “There is approx. 1 mile of congestion on approach.”
Another update said traffic is also being held on the westbound carriageway.
Reports on Kent Online claimed a big dog ran onto the busy road shortly before 7pm.
One driver said motorists from a truck, van and car worked together to help the animal.
They told the outlet: “It was sat in the lane and they had blocked off another lane around it causing traffic to go down to one lane.
“A man was directing cars past while a woman stood with the dog.”
