MAFS ‘golden boy’ Scott responds to ex-wife’s bombshell about their marriage – as his dodgy business past resurfaces and friends reveal he’s bracing for impact

Flirty, cocky and not shy to flash his cash, from Day 1 of MAFS, Scott McCristal was the producers’ pet who they could rely on to deliver TV gold.

But as is often the case with the reality show’s biggest personalities, his past is not exactly squeaky clean.

According to court documents obtained by the Mail, McCristal faced a string of charges related to his car sales business at Southport Magistrates’ Court on the Gold Coast in March 2024.

While no conviction was recorded, McCristal copped to the offences and his total of 28 charges resulted in an eye-watering $25,000 fine.

His dodgy dealings are not the only secret resurfacing from his past. Last week, we revealed McCristal operated an X-rated OnlyFans account several years ago.

And in another blindside, McCristal’s ex-wife is now coming out of the woodwork to claim the former couple might still be legally married.

Daily Mail found photos of McCristal’s 2019 wedding in the U.S. to Californian Marisa McElroy on the social media page of a diamond retailer.

Taking to TikTok last week, McElroy offered her theory for why McCristal had not yet mentioned on the show that he had an ex-wife.

‘You didn’t hear ex-wife,’ she claimed, ‘because I’m still legally his wife.’

Her sister Shelby then chimed in, ‘Sister of the bride here! They are still legally married in the States.’

The Mail has been unable to establish definitively whether McElroy and McCristal are, in fact, still legally married.

However, it should be noted that McCristal’s TV ‘marriage’ to on-screen wife Gia Fleur is not legally binding – none of the MAFS unions are – so we are not accusing him of bigamy or anything like that.

And for what it’s worth, sources close to McCristal – who previously starred in Ten’s Blind Date in 2018, and Channel Seven shows Holy Moley in 2021 and Million Dollar Island in 2023 – say that he believes the marriage was legally dissolved everywhere and received an email from an American court to that effect.

Less than a year after starring in Million Dollar Island – where he competed for a cash prize in Malaysia against 100 other contestants – he found himself in trouble with the Office of Fair Trading.

McCristal was charged with seven counts of failing to obtain statements from sellers, seven counts of failing to provide statements to buyers, seven counts of making false representations about vehicle mileage, and seven counts of tampering with odometers.

The charges were laid under the Motor Dealer and Chattel Auctioneers Act 2014, following an investigation into his car sales business.

His car sales business, McCristal Motors, based in Molendinar on the Gold Coast, once had a 4.7-star rating on Google, but has since closed.

But according to those closest to him, McCristal figured his chequered past would resurface once he appeared on MAFS and had braced himself for it.

‘Scott has moved on from all of that now,’ the mate told the Daily Mail.

‘He married Marisa soon after meeting her. He did love her at the time, but it was all over after six months.

‘As far as he is concerned, the divorce is finalised. He’s not sure why she has come out and said that.’

The same friend also said that while McCristal regrets the charges and fine related to his motor vehicle business, it all sounds far worse than it is.

‘He copped the fine and the charges because he was the one with the licence for the business,’ they told the Mail.

‘He owns up to that but he wasn’t the person doing it – the cars came to him like that and he sold them.’

The larger-than-life groom has been portrayed as a ‘reformed bad boy’ on MAFS – a characterisation his friends agree is pretty accurate.

One insider told us: ‘He quit drinking and he’s now sober. He hates the drama and didn’t drink at any of the dinner parties.

‘He’s definitely the MAFS “golden boy” this year – the producers love him.’

McCristal previously appeared on Channel 10's Blind Date in 2018, and Channel Seven's Holey Moley in 2021 (pictured) and Million Dollar Island in 2023

McCristal's brother Cameron (right) also has a public profile - or at least he used to. He was something of a Daily Mail regular during his on-and-off romance with Big Brother star Skye Wheatley (left) between 2015 and 2017, and appeared often in her Instagram posts and vlogs

McCristal describes himself in his YouTube bio as an ‘entrepreneur, longevity junkie, finance specialist and early morning savage’.

He says his mission is to help his followers ‘level up’ and achieve the ‘alpha lifestyle’ through fitness, clean-eating and setting goals.

But that’s all in the past for Cameron, who is now married to wife Hailey McCristal, with whom he shares four children.

Scott’s MAFS bride Gia Fleur is the most talked-about MAFS contestant of the season so far. She is currently embroiled in a feud with Bec Zacharia that has been simmering since episode one.

During the show’s first dinner party, Gia and Bec had a fiery dinner table clash over who had the better sex life.
