A MAJOR motorway has been closed after a crash near a busy airport with drivers facing rush hour travel chaos.
The M1 Northbound is currently closed between J23 and J24 due to a road traffic collision, said Leicestershire Police.
Cops confirmed two lanes have been closed after the crash.
Motorists were brought to a slow crawl on their journeys after the crash.
Pictures showed cars bumper to bumper as the closure sparked traffic chaos.
Drivers were also urged to allow extra time for their journeys today.
Anyone planning to use the major motorway is urged to re-route or even delay travel if possible.
Leicestershire Police said in a statement: “The M1 Northbound between J23 & J24 currently has 2 lanes closed.
“Please continue to try and avoid the area and find an alternate route.
“Thank you for your patience.”
