Paramedics sadly pronounced the 35-year-old dead at the Norman Wenn Skip Hire site at 9am on Monday.

Initial findings from an investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found Daniel was “entangled in a trommel screen and sustained fatal traumatic injuries”.

A trommel screen is a rotating cylindrical drum that is designed to separate materials by size.

Staff working at a business nearby said they heard “screaming, shouting and then everything went quiet” when the horror unfolded earlier this week.

Witnesses also reported a large emergency service presence arriving at the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate.

Tributes have continued to pour in for the waste management boss, who has been described at a “lovey guy”.

The family-run business was set up by Mr Wenn’s father, Norman, in 1985.

Daniel, understood to have been a father, was a director and took over the running of the company when his father retired.

Flower bouquets were laid at the site throughout the week.

One neighbour, who said he knew the family well, described Daniel as a  “technical young lad”, who was “very educated”.

Another added that he was a “lovely guy” and that it was a “sheer tragedy”.

One local woman said: “It’s just terrible news, especially because he was such a young person.”

“When it’s a younger generation with a young family it’s just awful”.

A Facebook post about Daniel’s death from a motorsports group described him as a “1300cc stock car star” and said he had appeared in world championships and won races across East Anglia.

The tribute has attracted dozens of comments from the public, with many sharing their memories of Mr Wenn as a driver and a man.

One said: “My heart goes out to Dan’s family and friends – he was an incredible person who left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his passion for racing was contagious.”
