A car crash left a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hospitalized on Sunday night, officials confirmed to KTLA.
LASD said it was around 9:30 p.m. when the deputy, who was not immediately identified, was driving near Central Avenue and Helmick Street when they were hit by another car.
The deputy was responding non-code, meaning no lights and sirens, to a call for service when they were T-boned on the driver’s side of their patrol car.
LASD said the collision triggered the airbags in the patrol car.
Details are limited and initial reports did not share what condition the deputy was in, but officials said they were transported to a local hospital for injuries from the crash.
The driver who hit the deputy’s patrol car remained at the scene and was not injured, according to LASD.
Footage from Citizen.com showed both vehicles in the intersection with a perimeter of caution tape set up around the scene.
An investigation is underway, LASD said.
