Police in Los Angeles shot a woman on Friday, leaving her hospitalized after she allegedly charged toward officers while armed with a knife, according to authorities.

The incident began at about 9:40 a.m., when the Los Angeles Police Department received a call reporting that a woman, later identified as Linda Becerra Moran, was “being forced to stay” at a motel against her will.

When officers arrived at the motel on the 10000 block of San Fernando Road in Pacoima, they found Moran inside a room. Officers spoke to Moran as part of their investigation into the alleged kidnapping, at which point she became “agitated.”

Police said she then armed herself with a knife and held it against her neck. Officers retreated back to the motel room’s doorway and ordered her to drop the knife, which she refused to do.

At that point, she “advanced” toward officers, police said, and at least one officer opened fire.

Moran was struck by at least one round and fell on the room’s bed, dropping the knife. Police said she was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.

Her condition as of Saturday was not revealed. It’s not clear if her injuries were life-threatening.

No additional details were immediately made available.
