The Major League Baseball Postseason is fast approaching, and it looks like the Los Angeles Dodgers will be without a key piece as they pursue a World Series title.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow is highly unlikely to return to the mound this season after suffering a sprained elbow.
In 22 starts this season, Glasnow went 9 and 6 with a 3.49 ERA. He was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays last offseason and subsequently signed a $136.5 million, five-year deal with L.A.
Glasnow, 31, has been outstanding when on the field, but that’s been the issue. He was placed on the Injured List in July with a back injury, and now an elbow injury will likely keep him out the rest of the way.
The 2024 season was his ninth in the MLB. He started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates before playing for the Rays and later the Dodgers.
The injury means the Dodgers will have a hole to fill at starting pitcher in the Postseason. Likely National League MVP Shohei Ohtani, the two-way superstar, is unlikely to pitch in October as he recovers from elbow surgery, though his bat will be valuable for L.A. in their pursuit of another World Series.
