Beginning on Tuesday, the sales tax in Los Angeles County will increase, impacting everything from groceries to car purchases.
After voters approved Measure A last November, the sales tax will increase countywide from 9.5% to 9.75%. The increase will fund homeless services and prevention.
The tax will remain in effect indefinitely unless repealed by voters.
The sales tax will impact cities across the county differently. For example, the city of Long Beach will see a 10.5% sales tax beginning on Tuesday, while Santa Monica’s new sales tax will be 10.75%
Palmdale and Lancaster will have higher sales taxes, 11.25%, after voters approved an increase in November to keep more dollars to grow and improve local programs, public safety and infrastructure.
