A Long Island man driving drunk struck and killed a senior citizen crossing the street on Sunday afternoon in Suffolk County, cops said.

Kenneth Stewart, 64, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while ability impaired, Newsday reported. Stewart was not injured in the crash.

Angela Sarant, 69, was killed by the collision, according to Newsday. Sarant was walking at the intersection of Vanderbilt Parkway and Village Hill Dr. when Stewart struck her with his vehicle, investigators said.

Cops responded to the scene in Dix Hills, about 30 miles east of Central Park, around 3 p.m. Sunday, the Daily Voice reported. Officers found Stewart drunk behind the wheel of a 2021 Honda Civic.

Sarant was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead, according to Newsday. Stewart’s arraignment was scheduled for Monday in Central Islip.

Despite killing Sarant in the crash, the initial charge against Stewart was the same one Justin Timberlake pleaded down to in his non-fatal Long Island DUI arrest. In Timberlake’s plea deal, he was sentenced to 25 hours of community service and fined $500. However, authorities could add additional charges against Stewart.

Two weeks ago, there were also two notable drunk-driving incidents on Long Island. On Sunday night, a woman crashed into boats at a Suffolk County marina and caused four vessels to catch fire. That same night, the superintendent of a Long Island school district was driving drunk when he struck and injured a motorcyclist.
