Logan Paulsen has some clear ideas on how the Commanders should approach the No. 29 pick in April’s NFL draft.
Yes, Paulsen, who was an NFL tight end with Washington for five seasons (eight total NFL seasons), sees the need for the Commanders to trade down and obtain a couple of draft picks. The team is short on selections this year, and Paulsen certainly understands the need for more selections.
Yet, on Wednesday’s “Take Command” podcast with Craig Hoffman, Paulsen was clear that if a player is there at No. 29 that the Commanders GM Adam Peters feels he cannot pass on, Peters will draft that player. Hoffman and Paulsen both articulated effectively that the fan base could learn that there is not one definitive player to select at No. 29.
However, the Commanders may need to forego those offers to trade back if an edge rusher that Peters and Quinn really like falls to No. 29. Peters may have put himself in a bind by being unable to acquire a good edge rusher in free agency.
Yes, it’s important to have more draft selections, especially for a team like the Commanders, one of the league’s older teams. Yet, the bottom line is you are not merely trying to obtain selections. No, you are trying to get good football players. More picks might be better, then again, a defensive end or corner that Peters is sure about to be a good player, then they have to draft him.

Hoffman jokingly concluded, “That concludes Craig and Logan’s draft philosophy: Get good players.”
