Thousands of “No Kings” protests are taking place on Saturday across the United States, with dozens of demonstrations planned in Southern California.
The “No Kings” movement started in opposition of policies being instituted by President Donald Trump and his administration. Saturday’s nationwide protests coincide with Flag Day, the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, and President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
On their website, “No Kings” states that “the corruption has gone too far.”
“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights and slashed our services,” the website’s homepage reads. “The corruption has gone too far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”
Thousands of protesters were seen in the streets of downtown L.A. at 10 a.m. Saturday as the demonstration kicked off at Grand Park. Downtown has been the site of demonstrations — some violent — against federal immigration raids in the L.A. area that began on June 6.
Since then, hundreds of protesters have been arrested on various charges as raids have continued throughout L.A. County.
All of the demonstrations remained relatively peaceful as of 2 p.m. Saturday.
