Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s embattled pick for Defense secretary, is facing growing scrutiny on Capitol Hill — but says he won’t back down from the fight.
Hegseth has already been the subject of accusations of sexual assault stemming from a 2017 encounter that he says was consensual. But fresh revelations emerged over the weekend involving alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct in his past.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that President-elect Trump is considering replacing Hegseth with Ron DeSantis (R), his one-time presidential rival and Florida’s governor.
Also on Capitol Hill, all eyes will be on House Republicans’ razor-thin majority for next year, jockeying for committee leadership roles and ongoing planning for Trump’s first 100-day agenda.
