Lisa Wilkinson has unveiled a dramatic hair transformation to herald in ‘new beginnings’, as tongues continue to wag the veteran broadcaster is about to make a highly anticipated return to television screens.

The former host of The Project opted to lop of her famous locks on Monday, and embrace a look she hasn’t seen since for some years.

The 64-year-old took to Instagram to tease her brand new hairdo with her 352,044 followers, with the once-Network 10 star tipping her hat to former employer, Channel Nine, in more ways than one.

In the frame, Lisa is seen taking a cheeky selfie in a salon as a stylist with ‘magic hands’ expertly curls her freshly cut, shaggy tresses that now sit shoulder length.

Lisa’s comments left no doubt the seasoned television star was pleased as punch with the results.

‘Gone the chop,’ Lisa proudly announced alongside the image.

‘Don’t think I’ve had it this short since the early Today show years. Feels sooo good,’ she continued, before adding the hashtags #shorthairdontcare and #newbeginnings.

Lisa, who is still believed to be under contract with Network 10, opted to trust her transformation with Channel Nine stylist Maria Maree Maree.

It comes after news that Lisa wants to make a return to TV screens.

The former darling of breakfast TV is keen to get back to delivering more ‘blockbuster interviews’ in the New Year, friends told the Weekend Australian.

Wilkinson quit The Project in November 2022 and despite remaining on the Ten payroll until the end of 2024, she hasn’t appeared on the channel since.

Despite her lengthy hiatus from the network, Wilkinson has remained in the public eye through her role in a highly publicised defamation trial.

Friends of Wilkinson say her court appearances played in her favour by giving the TV star ‘a constant stream of publicity’.

‘Yes, she’s been off air for a while but I don’t think anyone will have forgotten her,’ former Seven and Nine executive Peter Meakin told the Weekend Australian.

‘I’m sure her loyal followers will remain loyal.’
