(WJW) – After Frito-Lay issued a recall for some of its Lay’s Classic Potato Chips last month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined the select bags of snacks pose a serious health hazard.
More than 6,000 13-ounce bags were voluntarily recalled for what the company called “undeclared milk.” The snacks were reportedly only sold in Washington state and Oregon.
On Monday, the FDA classified the recall as Class 1, meaning they believe it’s “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” Class 1 is the highest of the FDA’s three recall designations.
Those who think they may have faulty chips should check the bag’s freshness date and manufacturing code labels. The date of the affected bags is Feb. 11, and codes would be 6462307xx or 6463307xx.
The government agency has not reported any allergic reactions from the affected chips.
