A LOCAL councillor has been slammed after his £200,000 Lamborghini was parked in a disabled space at the local authority offices on two occasions.
Farhaan Rehman, Labour Councillor for Hounslow Heath, is being investigated by Hounslow Labour over the gaffe.
Pictures taken in the civic centre car park appear to show the councillor’s blue Lamborghini Urus SUV parked in a disabled bay without a blue badge on display.
It comes after it was revealed that Hounslow Council fined single-mum and mental health nurse Loretta Alvarez £1,000 for “fly tipping” an envelope when her bins were full.
She said that if the councillor had breached parking regulations she would feel as if elected officials weren’t subject to the same rules as her.
The £200,000 supercar was allegedly left in a disabled bay on at least two separate occasions.
Hounslow Labour have since said they are investigating the claims after the images sparked backlash.
So far, the investigation has made no finding of fault against Councillor Farhaan Rehman.
The local authority reportedly claimed the issue was a matter for Hounslow Labour to deal with.
This was despite the parking spaces belonging to them.
However MyLondon reports that if a general member of the public was caught parking in a disabled bay in the borough without a blue badge, it would be a matter for the council.
A member of the public could see themselves slapped with a fixed penalty notice of £160.
Rehman’s father, Shafiq Reham, is the General Secretary of Hounslow Jamia Masijd and Islamic Centre Mosque – one of the largest in the UK.
The mosque is also currently under investigation, with the Charity Commission looking into the place of worship.
The probe was sparked over concerns about the mosque’s governance and regulatory compliance.
Concerns including “unaccounted for” charitable funds and contracts allegedly being awarded to associates of the leadership team were raised.
The government watchdog is probing claims of misuse of more than £1 million and corruption.
In the wake of the parking gaffe concerning councillor Rehman single-mum Loretta Alvarez said: “It [would make] you think, there clearly is a hierarchy.
“He thinks he can get away with it, and probably can because he’s a councillor.
“But me, a normal person, getting on, paying my bills, I’d have to pay that.”
Loretta Alvarez had placed the cardboard envelope on top of some boxes by the communal bins outside her flat in Feltham, west London.
The mother of two assumed council workers would take the rubbish when they came to collect the waste.
She was shocked to receive a penalty notice from Hounslow Council and was threatened with legal action if she did not pay.
