DONALD Trump has suggested Keir Starmer is pandering to Muslim voters by not backing his war against Iran — warning Britain is “not such a recognisable country” anymore.
In an astonishing broadside, the US President told The Sun: “Stop people from coming in from foreign lands who hate you.”
And he declared he never thought he would see the once “most solid of all” Special Relationship in such peril amid the biggest rupture in UK/US relations in decades.
Amid a major Transatlantic fallout over the use of UK bases to bomb Iran, Mr Trump lamented that things were “not like it used to be”, branding the breakdown “very sad.”
In a hammer blow to the PM, the President heaped praise on France and Germany, adding: “This was the most solid relationship of all. And now we have very strong relationships with other countries in Europe.”
Blasting Sir Keir Starmer directly, the President said: “He has not been helpful.
“I never thought I’d see that. I never thought I’d see that from the UK.
“We love the UK.”
And he blamed the PM’s botched deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius as the centre of their fall out, adding: “We call it the woke island”.
In a telephone interview from the White House on Monday evening, the President added: “It’s a different world, actually. It’s just a much different kind of relationship that we’ve had with your country before.”
Speaking to The Sun, Mr Trump said: “It’s very sad to see that the relationship is obviously not what it was.”
Asked about accusations that Sir Keir is pandering to Muslim voters for political reasons, the President said “it could be.”
Just days after Labour’s defeat at the Gorton and Denton by-election that saw accusations of religious bloc voting, the President added the embattled PM “has got his own difficulties.”
“The people of the UK, who I have a great relationship with, who I love, are sorry to hear it also… I don’t get it. But you know what? I just… I wish him a lot of luck.”
Speaking of Britain, Mr Trump said: “It’s also not such a recognisable country. I mean, you look at what happened over the last period of time and it’s very different.
“London is a very different place, with a terrible Mayor. You have a terrible Mayor there, some terrible people.
“But it’s a very different place.”
Asked what advice he would give the struggling Labour chief, the President replied: “Two very simple things.
“Open up the North Sea. Immediately.
“Your energy prices are through the roof.
“And stop people from coming in from foreign lands who hate you.
“Open up the North Sea and stop people from pouring into his country from faraway lands.”
On the wider war, Mr Trump said: “I can tell you that we’re doing very well… it’s a very dominant power.
“We are a very dominant power over and above everybody, and we’re doing very well, as you probably noticed.”
In a further humiliation for Britain, the President added America no longer needed its oldest ally to wage war in the Middle East.
He said: “It’s not going to matter, but [Starmer] should have helped… he should have.
“I mean, France has been great. They’ve all been great. The UK has been much different from others.”
The President added: “You’ve seen the Secretary General of NATO, the great things he said, Mark Rutte, He’s great.
“No, they’ve all been pretty much great other than…we think Keir’s was just very different.”
