Jude Law heartbreakingly found out that his mother Maggie had died just after he got the news he would be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The British actor, 51, admitted he had to delay the ceremony and it was a ‘long process’ after the tragic loss came as he was set to receive the prestigious honour.
He spoke with People shortly after the ceremony and said the event has been ‘quite an emotional experience’ as he described the star as a ‘final gift’
Jude told the publication: ‘It’s been actually quite a long process because I found out and was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks back.
‘And actually, I lost my mum. So we had to delay it. But in a very odd way as a kind of final gift, it meant that a few more of my family could actually be here.
‘So honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience, and obviously just a very personal occasion and really touching.’

Jude was supported by his wife Phillipa Coan and his two children Iris and Rafferty as he was awarded the sought-after star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.
While he didn’t directly mention his mother’s passing in his speech, he made sure to pay tribute to her by reminiscing about his childhood.
The actor said: ‘I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies.
‘And I had a dad who took me in the ’70s and ’80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our bodyweight in popcorn and chocolate.
‘So to have a place here among the talent that I grew up watching in all those films is both sublime and ridiculous.’
According to The Telegraph, Jude’s mother Margaret was a schoolteacher and she married his father Peter in 1967.
The actor grew up with his parents in the Lewisham district of London and began his career in theatre before moving on to TV and film.
He couldn’t contain his smile in the bittersweet moment as his star was unveiled during the special ceremony with his proud family watching.
Jude and Phillipa secretly welcomed their second child together – the actor’s seventh – last February.

He said: ‘I’ve been very very lucky to have had a family around me that have lived with and supported my passion for acting and filmmaking.
‘And some of those members of my lovely family are here today. And they know what they mean to me. I love them so much.’
Jude shares Rafferty and Iris as well as son Rudy, 21, with his ex-wife Sadie Frost.
The actor is also a father to 15-year old daughter Sophia with model Samantha Burke and Ada, nine, with singer-songwriter Catherine Harding.
Jude first gained recognition for his role in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and was nominated for an Academy Award.
During his early career, his mother would often accompany him to star-studded premieres and made herself a big supporter of his ventures.
During his three-decade career, he has starred in The Grand Budapest Hotel and JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts franchise portraying Albus Dumbledore, as well as Dr John Watson in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes series.
Law will next be seen in Justin Kurzel’s The Order, opposite Nicholas Hoult and Jurnee Smollett.

His family watched Jude unveil his star
Jude revealed the happy news he was a father for the sixth time in December 2020 during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
When asked what he’s been up amid pandemic quarantine, Jude said: ‘I’ve been gardening. Oh! And on top of that I had a baby. So there you go.’
Jimmy said: ‘Buried the lede, buried the lede on that one. Congrats, dad! That’s awesome.’
The actor said ‘it’s really wonderful’ and shared that he and his wife felt ‘blessed that they could just nest as a family’.
Before the birth of his sixth child, Jude said he would ‘absolutely’ be open to having more offspring.
The Talented Mr Ripley actor said: ‘I love it, so absolutely why not? I’m very lucky to be involved with someone I’m madly in love with…
‘The idea of having more children would be just wonderful. I’m fortunate to be with someone where I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had in my life.
