Journalist Jonathan Lemire is leaving Politico, the outlet confirmed on Friday.
Lemire had been serving as Politico’s White House bureau chief and has risen to prominence in the Washington, D.C., press corps as a regular on cable news shows.
He was hired by MSNBC in 2021 to replace Kasie Hunt as host of the network’s morning news and talk program “Way Too Early.”
Axios reported this week Lemire had inked a deal with the network to become a permeant co-host of “Morning Joe’s” 9 a.m. hour beginning in 2025.
“With the recent news of Jonathan’s upcoming role as a co-host on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, he will depart Politico,” Politico said in a statement to The Hill on Friday. “We thank Jonathan for his contributions and wish him success in this exciting new opportunity.”
Lemire shared the news with his followers on social media on Friday, saying his departure from Politico would come at the end of November.
“It’s been three great years and I’m so grateful for my team,” he wrote on the social platform X. “I’ll still be on MSNBC every morning and am eager for the exciting opportunities the future will bring.”
