Disney has announced that the newest special from stand-up comic Jessica Kirson will launch on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
The veteran comedian’s new hour will be her second, on the heels of Talking to Myself, exec produced by Bill Burr, which premiered on Comedy Central in 2019. Further information on the special, including its title and launch date, will be announced down the line.
Stated Kirson, “I am honored to be a part of the Disney family and that Hulu has chosen to feature my next special as part of their comedy initiative. People always ask me ‘is it hard to be a female comedian?’ I always say, ‘I don’t know; you should ask them.’”
Celebrated for her high-energy performances, ridiculous characters and self-deprecating vulnerability, Kirson has been working as a comic for more than two decades. She built a name for herself in the clubs of New York City and has since racked up an impressive following up social media, with nearly a billion views across platforms.
Recently producing FX’s Hysterical, a feature-length doc exploring the changing landscape of women in stand-up comedy, Kirson prior to that served as a consultant and producer on Robert De Niro’s film The Comedian, in which she also appeared. In addition to such other films as The Binge and The King of Staten Island, she’s previously been seen on the shows Ramy, Crashing, Kevin Can Wait and The Jim Gaffigan Show.
Repped by 3 Arts Entertainment and WME, Kirson’s new special comes to Hulu as part of its new stand-up comedy brand, Hularious, which launches in November with a new special from Jim Gaffigan. Recently, the streamer has also announced forthcoming specials from Bill Burr, Roy Wood Jr., Ilana Glazer and Atsuko Okatsuka, with more still to come. As part of its new comedy initiative, Hulu is also launching a curated collection of licensed stand-up specials ranging from iconic comedy specials to recent releases from 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics, among others.
