(NewsNation) — The March for Life rally returned to Washington today, this time to celebrate two-and-a-half years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and buoyed by hopes that a GOP-led Congress and President Trump will enact a nationwide ban on terminating pregnancies.
A rally began at noon on the National Mall with a string of Republicans speaking about their anti-abortion plans.
President Donald Trump was not in attendance, as he has a Friday trip to North Carolina on his schedule. However, he did record a video where he spoke to supporters and thanked them for looking after the unborn.
“In my second term, we will again stand proudly for families and for life,” Trump said. “We will protect the historic gains and stop the radical Democrat push…”
Vice President JD Vance, a practicing Catholic, was in attendance and spoke to the crowd outside at the National Mall.
“We march to protect the unborn, we march to proclaim and live out the sacred truth that every single is a miracle and a gift from God,” Vance said.
“By and large, our society, our country, has not yet stepped up in the way you have. Our government has certainly failed in that important responsibility,” he added.
“A culture of radical individualism took route. One where the responsibilities and joys of family life were seen as obstacles to overcome, not as personal fulfillment or personal blessings.
“I want more babies in the United States of America. I want more happy children in our country and I want beautiful young men and women, who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them.
“It is our government to make it easier for young moms and dads to afford to have kids, to bring them into the world and to welcome them as the blessings as we know they are.”
