The intruder who was shot and killed by a homeowner in Lake Mathews on Thursday has been identified as a 25-year-old man from Riverside.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 16000 block of Hidden Peak Lane just after 11 p.m. on a call regarding a suspicious person, RCSO said in a media release.
“The caller told dispatch that an unknown male was attempting to break into their residence, and the homeowner was armed with a firearm,” the release states. “The caller remained on the phone with dispatch and relayed information on the suspect’s actions.”
The suspect, identified Sunday as Paul Hunter, then forced his way inside the home where he was shot by the homeowner.
Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics despite lifesaving measures, according to RCSO.
The homeowner was transported to the Lake Mathews sheriff’s station for further investigation. In their update on Sunday, deputies did not disclose whether they were facing any charges.
