- Ricardo Godoi, 45, reportedly went into cardiac arrest at a private hospital
A Brazilian influencer has died after being given a general anaesthetic for a new full back tattoo.
Ricardo Godoi, 45, employed a tattoo studio to do the massive inking, who reportedly hired out a private hospital with all the equipment, staff and drugs needed to carry it out.
He is said to have gone into cardiac arrest on Monday on the operating table at the hospital, which is located in the coastal town of Itapema in the country’s southern Santa Catarina state.
He had told his 218,000 Instagram followers in a message shortly before the tragedy: ‘I’m about to undergo a surgical procedure and will only be back here after 4pm.’
Ricardo, who had built up a successful business importing and selling luxury sports cars including Ferraris and Lamborghinis, leaves behind a wife and children.
A police investigation into his death has been launched and was ongoing today.
The owner of the tattoo studio which was going to ink Ricardo said: ‘What happened was that, at the beginning of the sedation and intubation, he went into cardiac arrest.
‘That occurred before they even started tattooing him. He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success.’
They added that as well as being a client, Ricardo had been a ‘great friend’ and that the studio ‘deeply regrets’ his passing.
