An industrial yard fire broke out on Thursday morning, spreading across about 50 vehicles near the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County.

However, after assessing the damage, the fire department determined that only seven vehicles had been damaged.

Crews responded to a report of fire around 11 a.m. in the area where Harley Knox Boulevard meets Patterson Avenue in Perris, according to Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department on X.

Firefighters arrived and immediately started battling the flames that had engulfed debris, vehicles and vegetation in the industrial yard.

“The fire is emitting heavy smoke and is highly visible to the community,” the initial X post read. “Additional ground resources responding.”

In an update, the department said the blaze was burning one acre of vegetation, about 50 vehicles and one large pile of plastic piping.

Forward progress was stopped around 12:35 p.m., and no injuries or damage to structures were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately revealed.
