If you’re flying to Turkey, don’t stand up too soon once your plane lands. It could cost you.
Passengers who prematurely unfasten their seatbelts, stand up from their seats, or open the overhead compartments while the plane is still taxiing to the gate could face an administrative fine, according to a notice from the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The new regulation also applies to passengers who get up into the aisle before it’s their turn to deplane.
The announcement follows a significant increase in reports of disruptive passengers, which risks passenger safety and security, according to Turkish officials.
The notice did not specify the amount of the fine, but a Turkish broadcaster reports that it could be approximately 2,603 Turkish lira, equivalent to around $67.
