Alyah Chanelle Scott is opening up about Reneé Rapp‘s exit from The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Rapp departed the Max series after appearing in a handful of episodes of Season 3, and filming the goodbye scene for the cast was emotional.
“It was a crazy day. Genuinely so strange because it kind of felt like this impending thing that we knew was at the bottom of the call sheet of course,” Scott said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw. “They’re like, ‘It’ll be the last thing today,’ and in the back of your mind, you’re just like, ‘We have to do that scene. We have to do that scene. We have to do that scene,’ and it’s dark out. It’s like 10:00 PM. Everyone’s dead tired and then there’s no barrier to the emotion.”
Scott continued, “She’s standing in front of you saying those words and it’s like, I’m sobbing. I think they didn’t use any of the takes where we were all actually like cries. They were like, ‘Okay, reel it in a little. This is getting a little too far.’ It’s the most beautiful thing and I’m so proud of her for how she’s transitioned in and out of the show and all the things she’s doing in life. The scene really does mirror what’s happening in our lives.”
Sex Lives of College Girls follows the trials and triumphs of four roomies navigating their freshman year at the fictional Essex College. The cast of the series includes Alyah Chanelle Scott, Pauline Chalamet, and Amrit Kaur, who deal with relationship drama.
Since the series’ debut in 2021, Rapp has worked on her music career, releasing her debut album Snow Angel in 2023 and focusing on those efforts following the success. Rapp reprised her Broadway role of Regina George in the musical film adaptation Mean Girls earlier this year.
