MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) worked with Maryland State Police (MSP) to temporarily shut down Interstate 270 Thursday to take a person into custody, officials said.
MCPD said that officers first received notice of a “suspicious vehicle” in the area of Longwood Drive near Interstate 495 around 11:50 a.m. Officers realized that the car belonged to a critically missing person from Manassas, Va.
Shortly after the car was found, MCPD received several calls mentioning a person who matched the missing person’s description walking along I-495 and I-270. MCPD said that officers found that person “sitting on the center median near Rockledge Boulevard.”
MSP and MCPD shut down traffic in both directions on I-270 for safety before making contact.
MCPD said officers were able to take the person safely into custody.
I-270 has since been reopened.
