Although Hugh Grant shared the screen with Donald Trump nearly 15 years before the former president took office, the moment didn’t leave much of an impression.
While reminiscing about his 2002 romantic-comedy Two Weeks Notice, the Golden Globe winner said Trump’s cameo “didn’t really register” to him as he was preoccupied with a bet he made with co-star Sandra Bullock.
“He always wanted to be in my stuff, yeah,” Grant joked as he appeared on The Graham Norton Show.
“He played a bit part as himself in a romantic comedy I did with Sandra Bullock,” he explained. “But the fact is, I don’t really remember him very well. The night he came, I had a bet with Sandy that I could make the chairman of Warner Bros. cry by 9pm, and I was completely focused on that. It was quite a big bet. She didn’t believe I could do it but I did it.”
Grant added, “So, I’m afraid Donald Trump didn’t really register. All I remember is that a day or two afterwards, I got a call to say, ‘You’ve been made a member of Trump National New York.’ And like, ‘Oh, alright then’ — which was a golf club — but I don’t remember him greatly as a person.”
In Two Weeks Notice, Grant plays billionaire George Wade, whose environmentally conscious assistant Lucy Kelson (Bullock) puts in her notice after her boss becomes too dependent on her, only to realize they have feelings for each other.
After her ABC News debate with Trump last month, Kamala Harris has accepted a CNN invite for an Oct. 23 town hall following the deadline for both candidates to agree to a presidential debate on the network. The town hall will be broadcast live from the critical swing state of Pennsylvania.
Although Trump previously declared “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE” for him, CNN has also proposed an individual town hall for him. He has since agreed to a pre-taped Fox News town hall focused on issues affecting women, which will air Oct. 16.
