Shabana Mahmood says Labour MPs must acknowledge the genuine concerns of their constituents

In an interview with The Times, she said: “They [voters] see a system that’s broken, they have the evidence of their own eyes.

“I think it’s perfectly right for them to tell their MPs about it.

“What I don’t think anyone should do is gaslight them and pretend that that’s just not what’s happening. Because it is.”

It comes after she was met with criticism for her plans to overhaul the asylum laws this week.

Labour MUST create laser-focused immigration ministry to end small boat crisis

The shake-up will see refugees only granted temporary stay, small boat migrants having their assets seized to pay for accommodation, and families rejected for asylum deported.

Mahmood – herself the daughter of immigrants from Pakistan – shocked MPs in the Commons on Monday when she exploded into a sweary rant after being accused of “stoking division” with her language.

She passionately revealed how she is regularly called a “f**ing P***”.

The Home Secretary shared in her interview how her family have also been verbally attacked.

She said: “There are examples across our family and also the people I represent – more people telling me about being sworn at, told to f*** off home.

“That’s becoming a bit too common these days again.”
